Vinita, Oklahoma is a great historical Route 66 town. Driving along Route 66 you can see many examples of what Route 66 was like back in its heyday. Vinita is the second oldest town in Oklahoma and was founded in 1871 when the railroad came through. It was originally named Downingville but the name was changed to honor Vinnie Ream, the sculptress of the life-sized statue of Lincoln at the United States Capitol. There are many surviving vintage Route 66 buildings in Vinita, from cafes to motels, gas stations, and more. |

Zirl A. Hopkins III, known to most as Bubba Hopkins, began playing the fiddle at the age of 6. Inspired by his grandparents, Moss and Donna Thompson, and taught by Dave and Monte Gaylord in the style of Ace Sewell, Bubba is the 2005 Oklahoma State Fiddle Champion and a two-time Oklahoma Junior State Fiddle Champion and has placed in contests throughout Oklahoma, Texas, Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, Kansas, Tennessee, Illinois, and Idaho. He lives by his late grandfather's motto, 'Just one more tune!' |

Pensacola Dam forms Grand Lake of the Cherokees in northeastern Oklahoma,is over a mile in length and is the world's largest multiple-arch concrete dam. The dam was completed in 1938. |
